Hackney Arts was founded in 2016 as a way to harness the thriving arts scene of Hackney and use it to benefit its communities. As an arts organisation with a social mission, we aim to drive meaningful change through the power of the arts, exploring the connection between arts, creativity, wellbeing, community and mental health.

We work with local community organisations to deliver creative projects and workshops, focussing on the therapeutic and personal development opportunities that come from working with artists and having access to the arts. Alongside this, we host creativity and wellbeing workshops for businesses and their employees and produce creative activations and commissions for brands and events.

Our founder Sophie Thompson-Semple is a passionate arts producer who loves to dream up projects right across the creative industries. With a background in creative project management, tour producing, art fairs, exhibitions and festivals, she has taken inspiration from multiple art forms and models to create an east London focussed arts agency and creative consultancy that supports and celebrates creative talents and champions the unique power of the arts. She aims to build a creative community where everyone is welcome, allowing anyone to be creative, giving learning opportunities and exploring how creativity impacts our lives and mental health.
